About The Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation
CBTF Beginnings
CBTF was founded and incorporated 1994, in Virginia. In 1998, CBTF was reestablished as a Maryland charity and has been an active 501(c)(3) to date. We are an all-volunteer organization founded by families, friends, and physicians of children with brain tumors.
CBTF Mission Statement
Our mission includes raising funds for scientific and clinical research for pediatric brain tumors, to heighten public awareness of this devastating disease, to improve prognosis and quality of life to those affected by childhood brain tumors. We are determined to find a cure and offer hope to parents facing heartbreak.
Supporting Research
CBTF helps to fund various conferences, family information retreats, and scientific research. Support conferences such as ISPNO, International Symposium on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology and SNO/Society for Neuro-Oncology.
Medical research such as molecular studies, pediatric DPIG, and other specific tumor types or classes.
Supporting Patients and Families
We also aim to serve the needs of children with brain tumors and their families by providing supporting information. Hosting an annual Family Information Day to help families with information related to childhood brain tumors.
We provide a variety of informational resources, referrals to experts for consultations, quarterly newsletters with updates, and more. Much of this can be found on our website or through direct request. We have helped may families both nationally and internationally with obtaining information regarding childhood brain tumors.
The Ombudsmen program offers informational support and some resources for educational, employment and insurance issues.
CBTF Family Stories
Over the years, CBTF has worked with many families to assist them on navigating their own personal situations.
Many of those families choose to share their stories and photographs with the CBTF community by posting them on our website or publishing in our newsletters.
